Training courses about drugs & working with people who use them

Drugtrain has its roots in the early 2000’s as the drug and alcohol counsellor training provider established by Barnsley Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service (BADAS).

For over 20 years Drugtrain has been providing training to
organisations and individuals who work with people who use drugs.

About James

I have worked in drug treatment services since 2001, first as a volunteer, then in a wide variety of roles, always based in the treatment services in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Like many people I started working in this sector partly as a result of training courses provided by Drugtrain so I am passionate about continuing the Drugtrain legacy and providing training to people new to working in this sector or those who might have been here for a while.

I am passionate about working in this sector and working with people who use drugs to reduce harm or to support their recovery.

I feel privileged to work as a trainer and in supporting the professional development of people through training delivery and I see my training work as a part of my own continued professional development, learning something new from every group I work with.

“I want people who attend Drugtrain courses to leave feeling that they have learnt something that they can use with the people they work with but more importantly, I want them to feel inspired, motivated and with a sense of renewed enthusiasm for the work that they do.”

Why choose Drugtrain?

Here at Drugtrain I know the value of continuous personal development and training.

As a part of my own development, I have recently completed an MA in drugs and alcohol, undertaking a research project focused on harm reduction strategies amongst people using cannabis.

I keep up to date with developments across the sector through my membership of the Society for the Study of Addiction, through subscriptions to DDN and via my social media network.

I also read a range of academic research related to this work as well as continuing to add to my ever-growing book collection on all things drug-related.
